Youth Alpha Residential

We are just starting up Youth Alpha in our lunch clubs, giving the guys and girls who come along the opportunity to ask big questions such as ‘who is Jesus?’, ‘why did Jesus die’ and ‘why should I read the bible?’ We hope that over the next term they can get to know God more and grow in faith. As part of Alpha we are holding a sleepover at Newmillardam for all involved. We’re very excited about this weekend and are hoping that lots of young people would like to come along to explore God more, meet people from other schools and have a lot of fun too!

24-7 prayer at The Cathedral School

The week of 22nd January saw the Chaplaincy transformed at TCS, chairs were removed, cupboards hidden and the room was filled with inspiring prayer stations.

Everyone in the school- student and staff alike- was invited to come and take some time out of their busy day to pray and encounter God, whether it be writing a prayer for Haiti, chilling out in the tent, praying artfully on the graffiti table or printing your finger to show your individuality.

We also took a few year 7,8 and 9 STARS (society, theology and religious studies) lessons, discussing prayer and visiting the room. It was fab to see students engaging with the room and asking great questions about the how, what, why and when of prayer. They also learnt about the history of 24-7 prayer, how it stemmed from a prayer meeting in Moravia (which today would be just South of Poland) which lasted 100 years and inspired passion in these people to change the world.

We want to thank Cathedral School for giving us this opportunity, to Rev. Karen Campbell for her support as School Chaplain and everyone who helped us run the room. And of course to God, without whom we wouldn’t have dared do this!

Philippa Hanna

On 11th and 12th June we had Philippa Hanna visiting Wakefield again. She did some music lessons in Horbury school on both the Thursday and Friday, teaching about songwriting and getting the young people to start writing their own song lyrics to existing tunes. The lessons were brilliant, interactive, and Philippa really got the young people’s attention and encouraged them to pursue their musical interests whilst also challenging their ideas of the music industry being solely about fame and fortune.

Sadly the concert was, once again, postponed due this time to technical difficulties. But it has now been reorganised for 26th June and will take place in the assembly hall instead of the Atrium. This is far better place to hold it and it means that we have a few extra weeks for publicity so it should be packed out!

All your prayers would be appreciated for the team at the moment as there is a lot going on and it’s all a bit manic!

With only 6 weeks left until the end of term, this is a busy time for the team at CROSS.

We have numerous lessons planned, including Christmas lessons bizarrely! We also have Philippa Hanna coming this week to do lessons at Horbury School. There is the CROSS Project residential to plan, as well as finding a new team leader, which has got the admin staff up to their eyeballs in work!

So this is a busy time and all your prayers would be really appreciated by the team as we go about trying to tackle this work.
